After the initial shock of the Covid-19 lockdown in spring 2020, many of our ecommerce clients saw huge increases in sales for their products, based upon their ecommerce websites.
Clients with Freetimers' ecommerce websites have done particularly well, with some experiencing sales increases of between 100% and 500% in a single month. Aside from the fact these sites were all using the Freetimers ecommerce systems, and all were beneficiaries of our SEO service, the common denominator seems to have been product ranges targeting the home or garden. With hindsight it is reasonably clear why--with millions of people furloughed and at home with time on their hands, many have focused on their homes and strongly chosen to use ecommerce and the quick online purchasing channels to acquire what they need.
For some garden and DIY tageted sites there were truly significant changes, with some sites being forced to restrict sales early on in order to cope. What will be particularly interesting is if this wholesale change to ecommerce remains permanently. At Freetimers we have expected ecommerce generated consolidations to increase substantially, but we were a little surprised by the slowness of the changes. Covid however seems to be the trigger that has finally brought about a major change and permanently shifted market share to the best ecommerce sites.
