In late 2002 Freetimers won a major development contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop a broadband solution for rural areas where terrestrial broadband could not be delivered because of inadequate infrastructure.
The contract was won over more than 200 other companies from throughout the EU, and was supported throughout by the UK Government via the East Midlands Development Agency.
DSB was trialled successfully in two locations in Northamptonshire in urban and village settings, with the result that broadband can now be very reliably provided, virtually anywhere, at prices comparable with terrestrial ADSL. The system requires a central facility which is shared amongst from 10 to 50 users. Speeds range from 2MB down and 512K up.
If you are unable to receive broadband in your area, DSB is probably the rural broadband solution for you.
